Toronto - The Toronto Zoo

Situated in the north-east of the city in the beautiful Rouge Valley, the Toronto Zoo is one of the largest in the world covering over 700 acres. Over 5000 animals reside in the grounds with almost 500 species represented. As well as the animals on show there are over 10 kilometres of walking trails, a kids zoo, an interactive wildlife experience and Splash Island – a two acre water park and play area. Kids can enjoy camel and pony rides, have their faces painted or go for a ride on the ‘zoomobile’

With all the activities available you will surely work up an appetite and fortunately the zoo offers plenty of dining options – with picnic tables available if you want to bring your own.

The Toronto zoo has a focus on education and conservation and over the years has rescued endangered species, including Aurora and Nikita the polar bears, and has bred several species critically in danger of extinction. Children can get involved up close and personal with the animals if they take part in the ‘Meet the Zookeeper’ program.
