Toronto - St Michael’s Cathedral

Styled on England’s 14th century York Minster, St. Michael’s is the Roman Catholic cathedral of Toronto. The cathedral was consecrated in 1848 and was partly funded by Irish immigrants fleeing the potato famine. Other benefactors contributed to the construction of the cathedral, including the Most Reverend Armand-Francois-Marie Count de Charbonnel, second Bishop of Toronto who donated the great stained glass “crucifixion” over the sanctuary, a masterpiece of the noted French artist Thevenot.
