Toronto - PATH

PATH is the huge network of underground tunnels and walkways under the streets of downtown Toronto. The 27 kilometre long network houses the world’s largest underground shopping complex – with over 370,000 square metres of retail space.

More than 50 buildings or office towers are connected through the PATH system. It comprises twenty parking garages, five subway stations, two major department stores, six major hotels, and a railway terminal. The CN Tower and Rogers Centre are connected through an outdoor walkway.

Originally created as a solution to the overcrowding on the streets above and the squeeze developers were putting on small businesses, PATH has continued to expand since its inception in the 1960s. More expansion is planned for the future with over 40 new entry points pencilled in and plans afoot to double the length of the pedestrian walkway.
