Montreal - Montreal Place des Arts
The Place des Arts esplanade consists of 5 theatres where opera, ballet, dance, theatre and film presentations are staged. In the east of the downtown district, the complex was inaugurated in the 1960s – an initiative of the opera loving major of the day.
Today the esplanade houses a contemporary art museum as well as the theatres, along with shops, services, and rehearsal halls. The site is an important location for the Montreal International Jazz Festival – the largest Jazz festival in the world.
